Another Monday morning. As usual you show your co-workers you best zombie-like facial expression. Don’t worry. Coffee will kick in soon! Until then here are a few links to keep you busy:
- Aggro Me wrote an article on MMORPG influence on D&D4E. It’s a long, but extremely well written article. I enjoyed it a lot. I’m a big fan of bringing some of the computer gaming appeal to the tabletop. For example: if you know you and your friends rarely manage to keep a game going for more than 6 months (damn you, school and work!) why not give them instant gratification - 1 level up per 4 hour game? The actual leveling speed is debatable, but the underlying idea is good.
- I found the previous article thanks to Jonathan Drain’s d20 source.
- Monte Cook’s blog is definitely worthy of your time. He’s one of the few gaming-bloggers who has actually made it in the gaming world as a succesful professional. Who’s Monte Cook?
- And from Mr. Cook’s blog I found this website that could be of interest to all storytellers out there - and aren’t all DMs storytellers? The National Novel Writing Month encourages you to write a novel in 30 days and you don’t have to obsess over quality - just do it. 13000 people went from teacher, auto-mechanic, or sales rep to novelist last November!
Have fun at work!

Monte’s working at writing Novels. But he’s just started a new 3.5 campaign and it’s nice to see him talk about house rules and such….

I’ve only noticed 3 changes and one of them I really hate. The blank centre column until you’ve paged down one and three quarter pages. Yeugh! The first time I got it I sat waiting for the rest of the page to be loaded. Even now that I’m used to it I really dislike it. It means having to page straightaway instead of being able to read something immediately.
And even though I know differently my gut reaction on seeing the blank space is still - “he’s got nothing to say”.
I miss the excitement that used to be raised when I read the title of the day’s blog - by the time I’ve paged the anticipation has been replaced by irritation.
I wonder whether there’ll be any new visitors who never find your blog.
Don’t care for the Previous/Next links being right down at the bottom though that may just be a matter of getting used to the new place. Since I used to link back or forward once I got to Leave a Reply if I wasn’t going to comment I suspect some irritation will remain.
One thing I like, though I think this was an earlier change, is the listing of titles for the categories - much better than just jumping straight into the posts. However I feel these are much too spaced out - already there are 4 pages just to see all the titles for Gaming Life. What’s it going to be like after a year?

I love Monday morning Speed Linking, even though for me, it’s usually Monday night before I get to see them! :)
