It’s Monday morning and you’re thinking about lacing your coffee with amphetamines because coffee just won’t cut it. Don’t do it! You don’t have to be productive. You can check out these links instead of working:
- Black Dragon! Expy - my young adult red dragon friend and mascot - will kill me when he’ll learn I’m promoting black dragons! In this case it’s worth it because Black Dragon has a great article on making D&D combat more exciting and challenging.
- A while back I wrote this article: 18 ways to increase combat duration.
- Stupid Ranger tells us why we don’t want realistic combat in D&D.
- As always, Treasure Tables is an extraordinary DMing resources and I found an article on Ways to make combat more interesting on the GM wiki.
Have a great day at work!

Something on the Treasure Tables reminded me of something from years back. The DM was adding colour to the fight scene…
DM: The goblin swings widely at your torso, but it deflects of your shield.
Me: I don’t have a shield - I’m using a longspear to poke the spellcasters.
DM: Oh, then take 1d8+2 damage.
Me: Hmmm, that’s me asleep at -1.
I’m sure that there’s a lesson to learned here.
