D&D Sunday morning quiz: Death!

Here’s another installment of the Sunday morning D&D quiz. There’s only 5 months left before the 4th edition of Dungeons & Dragons is published so all the DMs out there should be at their storytelling apex.

Here’s a concrete way to test your knowledge of the finer details of the game.

This week’s quiz - PC death!!

There are so many ways a DM can kill a character. Are you on top of the damage dealing rules?

What’s the maximum damage one can take from falling?

  • 10d6
  • 20d6
  • 10d6 + 1/10ft.
  • 20d6 + 1/10ft.

How much damage does a 100ft fall into 10ft of water deal?

  • 6d6 + 2d3 nonlethal
  • 8d6 + 2d3 nonlethal damage
  • 10d6 + 2d3 nonlethal damage
  • Dazed for 1 round and everybody points and laughs at the belly flop

Your hair catches on fire. What do you do?

  • A reflex save DC 15
  • I use my cape to put out the fire.
  • I run around around, flailing my arms and screaming.
  • It depends. Do I have fire resistance?

How long can you choke on smoke before taking lethal damage?

  • 1 round
  • 2 rounds
  • Depends on your Fortitude save
  • You mean fire smoke, right?

How can you starve to death in D&D?

  • By not eating
  • By fasting for 1 day + a number of hours equal to your constitution score and then failing a bunch of fortitude saves.
  • By playing with an evil DM.

How bad does a vat of acid can hurt you if you fall in it?

  • 10d6 per round
  • 20d6 per round
  • Some acids can really hurt. Others will just sting your eyes really bad.

If you’re naked outside in the cold, how cold must it be before you take lethal damage?

  • -20F
  • -30F
  • -40F
  • With party member to cuddle with: -40F. Without cuddling option: -10F.

An angry gnome hits you with an flaming greatsword? How much damage do you take (STR 18)?

  • 3d6+6
  • 1d10+1d6+6
  • 1d12+1d6+6
  • It depends. Is the gnome really angry?

    Gosh, you think I would score better on these, I am the worlds greatest DM. But, alas I only got a 60%. The test must be rigged!

    Don’t worry. You didn’t break anything. The survey allows for more-than-perfect scores - it depends on how the system profiles you. Do you like red dragons? That helps a lot.
