D&D Sunday Morning Quiz – Which Edition?

Written by Expy - Published on June 22, 2008

DNDSMQ 06-22-08

This week’s quiz will test 2 things. First it will test your knowledge of the different D&D editions. And it will also test the new quiz A.I. – I’m dropping the psychological modifier. I realized that the bonus or penalty to the final score really depends on how the A.I. feels, not on how screwed up you are. I hope that 6+ months of negative psychological modifier won’t leave permanent marks on your psyche!

NOTE: Some e-mail clients and RSS readers aren’t able to submit your quiz answers to the website. If you’re reading this from an e-mail subscription or a feed reader you should head to Dungeon Mastering to take the quiz.

This week’s quiz – WHICH EDITION(S)?

Meet Expy The Red Dragon

Expy is the mascot for DungeonMastering.com and the real mastermind behind Expy Games. He likes to hoard treasure, terrorize neighbors, burn down villages, and tell white dragon jokes..

No matter how fearful the legends claim dragons are, they always end up being defeated in 5 rounds by adventuring parties they encounter. That’s what dragons are – experience points for the heroes in your Dungeons & Dragon party. And this mascot is no different, hence the name Expy.

  9. Brian says:

    The edition that introduced the paladin class in its core books:

    * AD&D 2nd Edition

    Ok, somebody’s gonna have to explain this one to me, since there are paladins in my copy of the 1e PHB.

    Can, will, and do…

  14. Max says:

    Fun, even if I tanked and scored only 49%. Disappointing.

    Publication Dates did me in, and the tricksome first question!

    One fussy note: Basic D&D is *not* the version published in 1973. The 1973 version is usually referred to as Original Dungeons & Dragons these days. Basic D&D most commonly refers to the 1981 Basic/Expert ruleset (aka Moldvay/Cook for its editors), though it can also mean the 1977 John Eric Holmes version or the 1983 Frank Mentzer edition. See Dungeons & Dragons, or the Basic Set and its sequels

  15. Yax says:

    Thanks for the history Max
