Spending an inordinate amount of time at the inn?
Written by Yax - Published on August 28, 2007

NOTE: For a change this is not a tip on reducing prep time! Hurray!

A touch of realism

What is it with adventurers and inns? Even when they’re in their hometown PCs have an obsessive compulsive tendency to gravitate toward the nearest inn!

Considering the amount of time you might be roleplaying inn scenes, why not add a touch of realism to your medieval fantastic inns and have a short list of menu items printed out! The internet has a infinite amount of cooking sites and you can change any kind of meat in a recipe for owlbear meat, displacer beast meat, or any fantastic creature you can think of.

Expy the dragon says:
Red dragon meat is fire
resistant so you have to
eat it raw.

Important disclaimers and notes

Disclaimer: If you’re going to serve owlbear, beware of owlbear rights activists!

Note: An interesting side-effect of browsing cooking sites is that it impresses girls. Make sure you “forget” your browser open on a cooking site so that your girlfriend / better half / prospect sees it!

One random recipe site: Janet is hungry.

Instead of pizza and Dew, me and my crew try to coordinate a semi-relevant meal. We’ve had a sweet Irish stew with wine and Guinness in it. I just told my friends it was made from a recently-slain Tundra Yeti and they were all over it. An easier one is some rotisserie chickens and some big loaves of bread, no utinsels!

It probably makes for great roleplaying sessions. No utensils will get messy if you roll dice though!

When you are the resident Snack wench for your D&D group.. you learn to substitute stuff.
Ale… easy enough… Just get some Beer or Lager in some big Tankards.
I actually found a place that sold mead in Cornwall last year..
Just have casseroles or stews, the meatier the better.
There isn’t much point roasting a whole boar…. so just cook some pork or something.
