That getting captured and sent to jail thing happened to me! My friends DID plan a rescue, but I (without weapons, and guarded by ten guards) ESCAPED! To all DMs, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS! It was the most fun I've had playing this game yet!

I see real-life examples of Rogues in our jail and prison system every day. There are:

Crazy Rogues - those who commit crimes because they are not right in the head
Petty Rogues - those who commit crimes to support a habit (drugs, alcohol, laziness)
Associate Rogues - those who hand out with the wrong crowd (gang members)
Business Rogues - career criminals often at the top of the Rogue foodchain
Anarchist Rogue - lone Rogues who cheat, fight, and steal because that is who they are

You can fit almost all real world criminals into one of these types. A serial killer is often a Crazy Rogue. Most gang bangers are as cross between an Associate Rogue and Petty Rogue. The gang leader might be a Business Rogue crossed with and Associte Rogue. The Anarchist Rogue is that unpredictable guy that follows almost no rules and can change his mind at a whim.

There is so much variety that can be put into this class using real-world examples!

I think these are some very good points that could indeed help to flesh out rogue PCs. But the author makes a rather large mistake here... he assumes that ALL rogues are thieves. This has never been true and the rogue, particularly in 4e, is as much about swashbuckling adventurers as it is about common thieves. Diplomats, spies, and assassins can ALSO be rogues even though they're obviously not thieves. So the interpretation of rogue = thief is a false one.

That said, this was still well written and an interest look at roleplaying THIEVES ;).
