We’re Hiring – Dungeon Mastering looking for PHP programmer

Written by Expy - Published on May 19, 2009

Yes, you!

Dungeon Mastering needs you!

I thought I’d announce it here before looking for people on a freelancer website because I’d love to work with someone passionate about D&D.  In the past few weeks I’ve been neglecting my coding and designing duties in favor of more management and big-picture stuff.

What we want to do

One of the things that make Dungeon Mastering popular is that we always try to offer more than what is expected. We need someone who cares about D&D because the job will require judgment calls – what will appeal to gamers, to our readers.  So if you’re reading this you might be the perfect match.

The main duties of the Interactive Content Developer – that’s the fancy title of the position – will be:

  1. Write, code, test, and publish 2 Sunday morning quizzes every month
  2. Update and improve Dungeon Mastering’s DM Tools

  1. You must know the CakePHP rapid development platform in and out.
  2. You must have decent MySQL + PhpMyAdmin skills
  3. You must have good writing skills.
  4. You must be familiar with WordPress.
  5. You must love red dragons.  I cannot understate this.  You must be infatuated with them.

Send a one-page resume

I’m a busy guy and I don’t need to know your life story.  I will not read the second page of your resume and I will not read your introduction letter.  I will read letters of reference if you send them though.

Send your resume to yax@dungeonmastering.com

This ties nicely into my latest project.  Johnn (from RoleplayingTips.com) and I are thinking about developing a step-by-step course / coaching program for people who are interested in working in the RPG industry.  We both earn money every month from our RPG endeavours and we think we can help others do the same.  We don’t have the specifics yet because the project is in its very early stages but we did set up and early notification list.  If that sounds intriguing to you, subscribe to the list at:

The Gamer Lifestyle Project (early notification list)

Looking forward to work with you!

Meet Expy The Red Dragon

Expy is the mascot for DungeonMastering.com and the real mastermind behind Expy Games. He likes to hoard treasure, terrorize neighbors, burn down villages, and tell white dragon jokes..

No matter how fearful the legends claim dragons are, they always end up being defeated in 5 rounds by adventuring parties they encounter. That’s what dragons are – experience points for the heroes in your Dungeons & Dragon party. And this mascot is no different, hence the name Expy.

This job sounds great but there is only one problemo, i dont like red dragons…

  2. Yax says:

Gus! I fear for you. Expy reads comments, you know…

  3. Pharen says:

:O, this seemed like a great opportunity, but I have ~never~ heard of CakePHP (And I’m not tóó familiar with WordPress).

I do think it’s a great idea to search for a programmer actually into DnD though!

  4. Asmor says:

Interesting… I’d be tempted, but I really don’t have the time to spare. Gotta find one of those nasty “full-time with benefits” kinda jobs. :/

Best of luck in your search.

  5. Zombieman says:

If only it weren’t CakePHP… I married a red dragon, though technically she is too chaotic to understand the concept of commitment and fidelity… I will ask around about Cakers too and see if I can get them to apply.

  6. Yax says:

    Thanks Zombieman

  7. ZorkFox says:

Yeah… CakePHP? Never heard of it before. Took a look at their screencasts for a whetting of the appetite, but found most of them don’t have audio. Looks a bit like Ruby on Rails, but with the fiddly bits all coming BEFORE deployment, instead of during. o_O Too bad. I have all your other bases covered.
