D&D links for dungeon masters

Random thoughts

Monday mornings suck. I’ve been up for 2 hours and haven’t left the house yet. Unfortunately I show up for work whenever I want. This morning I’m whining like a baby: I don’t want to go to work. So at least I’ll do something constructive and write a useful post.

My current bookmarks

Before I link my favorite websites, I’d like to send a message to all webmasters in the RPG industry. Please strip down the design of your web pages. My eyes are bleeding from the visual noise. Black text on white or pale background. Please? Pretty please? OK. Here we go.

  • Barrok’s Tower is an think tank for DMs. Everyone shares thoughts, ideas, and concepts. It looks like just another forum but I’ve been browsing it for a week or so and it seems to have direction. Here is an example of what makes this website great for dungeon masters. Recently they launched a contest – with prizes – for best guild, society, or club like organization in D&D. You can snatch of these organizations right there from the forum for your campaign or use one or more for inspiration.
  • d20db is a wiki of classes, items, and monsters. My first impression of the website is that it has a lot of room to grow. 2 things make this tool great for me. First of all the design looks clean. I am sick of visual noise on RPG website. It is ridiculous. This website looks modern and fresh. Secondly there is a funky “random page” feature that kindly takes away the thinking part of web surfing. If I have a few minutes to kill I can just hit the random page link.
  • Official D&D forums – still a great resource.

There’s a lot more websites out there but quality is hard to come by. I don’t want to suggest anything else right now since I’m not sold on other websites. Have fun surfing.

Meet Expy The Red Dragon

Expy is the mascot for DungeonMastering.com and the real mastermind behind Expy Games. He likes to hoard treasure, terrorize neighbors, burn down villages, and tell white dragon jokes..

No matter how fearful the legends claim dragons are, they always end up being defeated in 5 rounds by adventuring parties they encounter. That’s what dragons are – experience points for the heroes in your Dungeons & Dragon party. And this mascot is no different, hence the name Expy.

I could sing the sites praises, but go and look for yourself. I am less able to spend time updating the site than I would like, so it is not as up to date as I would like. We were ENnie nominated, and the team have won Ennies for other things, so the talent is there. You should, in amongst the limited use items find yourself plenty of gem’s.
